The Magus

Francis Barrett’s The Magus is an early nineteenth-century compendium of ceremonial magic, drawing together material on astrology, alchemy, talismans, and spirit conjuration. Historically important as a bridge between older grimoire traditions and later occult revivalism, it offers a wide survey of magical theory, diagrams, correspondences, and practical rituals.

Francis Barrett was an English occultist best known as the author of The Magus (1801), a compendium of ritual magic, astrology, alchemy, and related traditions. His book became an important source for later nineteenth-century occult revivalists and remains a key reference in the history of Western esotericism.
