Marcus Aurelius (121–180 CE) was Roman emperor and a major Stoic philosopher whose Meditations became one of the most influential texts of classical moral and spiritual literature. Though not esoteric in a strict sense, his reflections on self-discipline, providence, and the inner life were widely read in later philosophical and spiritual traditions.
