This first issue of Aleister Crowley’s influential periodical inaugurates the literary and ritual program that would become central to modern Thelemic literature. Historically important as a vehicle for Crowley’s evolving magical philosophy, it contains essays, ritual material, poetic pieces, and practical instruction from a wide range of occult and symbolic perspectives.

Aleister Crowley (1875–1947) was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, and religious innovator who founded Thelema, a modern esoteric system centered on will, ritual, and spiritual liberation. His many books, including Liber AL vel Legis and Magick in Theory and Practice, made him one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century occult literature.
