Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw (1904–1982) was a prominent Burmese Theravāda Buddhist monk and meditation master known for systematizing and popularizing vipassanā practice. His teachings and manuals on mindfulness and insight meditation have had a major influence on modern Buddhist literature and practice worldwide.
