St. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582) was a Spanish Carmelite reformer and one of the major mystics of Christian literature. Her writings, including The Interior Castle and The Life of Teresa of Jesus, are foundational texts on contemplative prayer, spiritual experience, and the disciplined mystical life.
