H. S. Olcot is almost certainly Henry Steel Olcott (1832–1907), co-founder and first president of the Theosophical Society. He was an important popularizer of Theosophical and comparative religious ideas, and his writings helped present Buddhism and esoteric universalism to a wider Western readership.
