Athanasius Kircher (1602–1680) was a Jesuit polymath whose vast writings ranged across antiquarianism, linguistics, natural philosophy, and comparative religion. Although not an occultist in the modern sense, his works on Egyptian hieroglyphs, magnetism, and hidden correspondences were highly influential in the history of early modern esoteric and symbolic thought.
