Astrology is the study of the correspondence between celestial cycles and events on earth — one of the oldest of the learned arts, practised across Babylon, Hellenistic Egypt, the Islamic world, India, and medieval Europe. For most of history it was inseparable from astronomy and formed part of a unified cosmological science.
Its literature spans technical manuals of chart calculation and interpretation, philosophical defences of the art, and works linking the planets to alchemy, medicine, and magic. The tradition was revived and reformulated in the twentieth century and remains widely studied today.
